The Retire to Abundance Newsletter

Intentionally Intentional:

The article and my blog this month may seem a little at odds, but I think they really come back to the same thing: be intentional.

There’s nothing wrong with being busy in retirement, and there’s nothing wrong with slowing down. The key is that you’re choosing it.

We spend a lot of time planning how much money we can spend in retirement. I think we should spend just as much time planning how we want to spend our time.

Your money deserves a plan. Your time does, too.

Why Autonomy is the True Gift of Retirement

In some ways this article may seem at odds with my new blog below. This author says what you are really looking for in retirement is Autonomy (which I agree with). He notes as a society we are not very comfortable sitting with the time and attention freedom of Autonomy and, so, often we work to fill that space. In our working years it's naturally filled by our jobs but in retirement, can become a source of discomfort that many choose to fill by overloading their calendars. Though I don't disagree with this, I more often see the opposite, in that so many have no intentionality in filling this time/attention void that it becomes consumed by whatever is readily available, instead of them actively choosing what should fill that void. If you read (or skim) both articles, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

What I've been up to lately

Recently we were able to go help my dad with corn harvest. I always relish the opportunity for my kids to learn a little more about where their food comes from, as well as getting a taste for how dusty and dirty farm work can be. My two oldest sons even got to take turns running the tractor this year, which was definitely the highlight for them.
