The Retire to Abundance Newsletter

Springtime:

Spring is...springing. Our evenings are now longer, and the sun seems to be shining more. It is one of my favorite times of year where we get to crawl out of our proverbial winter hole and get to enjoy the outdoors once again.

The rest of this newsletter may not be quite as cheerful, but this is your reminder that sunny skies are ahead. And if you’re one of our clients, take a deep breath, we’ve got this.

When War (and Other Major Events) Hit Wallstreet

Watch the news lately? Feel like the world is coming to an end? Or at least that your pocketbook will not survive the next month? Is all this negative emotion from the news warranted?

This article looks at the effects of war and other major world events on the market over the past several decades. It explores what happens during and after major events and also lists the top 101 largest daily market moves since 1941 (at the end if you'd like to peruse the list for your daily enjoyment). In the end it all boils down to this...

"The news attempts to explain why the market did what it did on any particular day. Unfortunately, the story often falls short. The reason behind big market moves is more of a mystery than what the headlines claim."

Why (Market) Volatility Doesn't Matter

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably seen what is going on with the Iran-Israel conflict and the volatility that has come with it. Oil prices are up, the stock market is down, and there is no clear timeline for how this all plays out.

With that as the backdrop, I thought it would be a good time to revisit volatility and the role it should play for a long-term investor. At the time I wrote this blog in October of 2024, it was one of my most read blogs. If you haven't already read it, I encourage you to take a look, keeping the past few weeks in mind.

What you'll learn:
→ Why (and how) to play the long game with your stocks
→ Why volatility is nothing to be afraid of
→ Common investor pitfalls that allow volatility to kick your butt
→ Famous investor, mutual fund manager, and author Peter Lynch's ridiculously simple advice for investing

December The Retire to Abundance Newsletter How to Retire to Abundance: When I talk about retiring to abundance, I am not talking about retiring with the biggest number on a statement or the most optimized social security claiming strategy (although they certainly don't hurt ☺️). I am talking about retiring with enough clarity and confidence to actually use the resources you worked decades to build. Most people I work with have done the saving part well. The harder part is learning how to...
